I've had some trouble getting my advisor to respond to emails in a timely manor, and providing me the right information when it comes to enrolling in certain classes.Īs far as KU's equality goes, I think its pretty standard compared to other universities in the US. (at least from my experience in the computer science advising department). On the topic of majors, KU's engineering program has some exceptional professor's, but sometimes it feels like engineering's advising is pretty hit or miss. I've been going to KU for 2 1/2 years now, and have a pretty good feel of the campus/LGBT social scene. YMMV in other departments, but I'm not aware of any specific issues.Īpologies for being late to respond, I saw your post earlier and saved it but didn't have the time to respond.įor credibility sake, I'm transgender myself (22, AMAB, pre-HRT). I've never been in the dorms, so I dunno what the exact situation there is, but I've had a number of undergrad students who did live there while or after they transitioned, and they haven't complained about it to me, for whatever that's worth.įinally- while it's not my home department, I have taken a number of classes in and know some people in ATMOS and some of the related/neighbor programs (EVRN, GEOG, GEOL), and based on those people I think you'll probably be fine. I've never seen anybody get hassled, or even really paid extra attention to based on their gender presentation. Pretty much everybody I know there will happily try to use your preferred pronouns, and a number of the (men's) restrooms that I happen to use have had nice little baskets containing 'sanitary' products, indicating that you should use whichever restroom you prefer. They've made a pretty good effort over the past couple of years to improve things/make it more comfortable for trans students. I've been at KU a grad student and GTA for the past three years (and an undergrad some years before that), and I think you're likely to be fine as far as trans-equality goes.
